V-Plex House of Light — Light walls for the 21st century mind

the videowall is an art form
for the 21st.century
it is four-dimensional
the artist paints with video in time
on an electronic canvas
a digital simulacrum of human experience
a theatre of complexity
juxtaposition, repetition and rhythm
creating a new language of synthesis
experiential, not perceptual
a videowall is not an object
it is a dynamic metaphor
rendered, programmed, non-linear
it deconstructs time and space
and recombines creative ideas
into a representative reality
where form generates content
where program determines object
and where the substance of meaning is
found in the world
between the screens

The Intercommons is a proposed complementary complex of organizations designed to safeguard and promote creativity, innovation, free speech and commerce on the Internet.

Definition — Intercommons: an interconnected network of digital commons, derived from Internet, a protocol connecting networks. The Intercommons is both a framework and the protocols for creating one or more viable digital commons -- community property, public investment, environmental resource, social contract and nonprofit foundation all in one.

The purpose of the Intercommons is to serve the public interest by creating, growing and protecting an open digital commons for free speech, invention, artistic expression and a fair market for products and services. In recognition that current trends threaten all of these elements, which are the very basis of all free societies of the future, this initiative must be engaged in with all due haste and forthright commitment.

By creating this Intercommons, an independent network owned and operated by its participants, we believe that sufficient social, economic, legal, and political power can be generated to ensure that Cyberspace continues to exist by and for the public interest.

Free Speech

Break the Chain
The Mission of Break the Chain is to educate people about the e-mail chain letters circulating on the 'net, share the facts, give interpretations, and provide the tools and information people will need to determine for themselves the validity of a message. . . . The Goal of Break the Chain is to reduce junk being distributed on the Internet by well-meaning individuals in the form of e-mail chain letters. We encourage e-mail users to look not only at the facts presented in the messages they receive and send, but also to pay attention to how those facts are presented, the implications and limitations of e-mail as an information tool, the motives of the original sender and the impact the continued circulation of the letter can have.

Chilling Effects Clearinghouse
A joint project of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley, and University of San Francisco law school clinics. . . . Do you know your online rights? Have you received a letter asking you to remove information from a Web site or stop engaging in an activity? Are you concerned about liability for information that someone else posted to your online forum? If so, this site is for you. . . . These pages will help you understand the protections intellectual property laws and the First Amendment give to your online activities.

Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF)
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) was created to defend our rights to think, speak, and share our ideas, thoughts, and needs using new technologies, such as the Internet and the World Wide Web. EFF is the first to identify threats to our basic rights online and to advocate on behalf of free expression in the digital age.
. . . Based in San Francisco, EFF is a donor-supported membership organization working to protect our fundamental rights regardless of technology; to educate the press, policymakers and the general public about civil liberties issues related to technology; and to act as a defender of those liberties. Among our various activities, EFF opposes misguided legislation, initiates and defends court cases preserving individuals' rights, launches global public campaigns, introduces leading edge proposals and papers, hosts frequent educational events, engages the press regularly, and publishes a comprehensive archive of digital civil liberties information at one of the most linked-to websites in the world.

Internet Free Expression Alliance (
The Internet is a powerful and positive forum for free expression. It is the place where "any person can become a town crier with a voice that resonates farther than it could from any soapbox," as the U.S. Supreme Court recently observed. Internet users, online publishers, library and academic groups and free speech and journalistic organizations share a common interest in opposing the adoption of techniques and standards that could limit the vibrance and openness of the Internet as a communications medium. Indeed, content "filtering" techniques already have been implemented in ways inconsistent with free speech principles, impeding the ability of Internet users to publish and receive constitutionally protected expression. (Mission of the IFEA) This webstie also has many valuable resources for free speech advocates.

DigiBarn Computer Museum
The DigiBarn Computer Museum seeks to weave personal stories and technological innovation through a large number of vintage computer systems, oodles of manuals, videos, interviews, all fossil relics of the "Cambrian explosion" of personal computing that ignited in 1975. When we get visitors, those who "burst into tears" upon seeing certain systems which may have defined their lives/careers, our cameras roll to capture the inevitable stories. Thus the three rooms of the museum constitute a kind of "memory palace" for the nerd-inclined and help us piece together the amazing story of the invention of personal computing and Cyberspace. It is Bruce Damer's fantasy one day to get professional help and many more folks' interest in blessing a mini-project to create a web describing these lives, inventions, and this time in history.

The DigiBarn is a 'hands on' place where (at the risk to breaking them) folks come here, boot up the systems, load their software and relive some of their past.

We are about capturing the artifacts in order to capture the stories. For example, when guests come our cameras roll so that we can document the people and their lives behind the machines and software. The machines serve as a memory palace facilitating the recalling of the times and lives of people, especially how they interconnected with other people. This focus on the interweaving of lives and who met who when and why is inspired by James Burkes' connections approach to history.

The last thing is that we are a bit more whimsical than most museums. For example, we are plastering the walls and ceilings with 3,000 T-shirts because the t shirt is the symbol of nerd-dom and why not surround the museum visitor with it?

[Comment: If, years ago, you labored through the night soldering your very own Sol-20, it truly will bring tears to your eyes to see one of those wonderful little machines once again. . . . . Lorenzo]

Mind, consciousness, intelligence

An Adventure for the Mind
[One of my regular surfing habits is to find a creative website each week and spend some quality time on it, poking around, kicking the tires, and really getting a feel for the thought that went into it. If that idea strikes your fancy, then you couldn't find a better place to start with than at This is a space created by some extremely talented artists whose primary medium is consciousness. Highly Recommended. —Lawrence Hagerty]

We are your future dreaming selves.
We send a message from hyperspace into your local spacetime in order to stimulate imagination - the Dream Machine with which you will construct the next world.
During the years 1993 to 2012 the human species experienced a transformation - from an ego-based civilization to Gaian consciousness.
We called it the Shift, and it changed everything.

Know this:
The Earth is alive, and you are the brain.
Thought creates reality, so do it with imagination.
And what you think is what you get.
Relax, everything is ok,
and there is nothing to worry about.
You survived.
We are your futuremind.

3.2 Year Life Cycles — Time and Synchronicity
This site explores repeating life cycles (e.g., the 7 year cycle) and their impact on our day by day evolving life. In using different long- and short-term life cycles, it is possible to unravel the creative force in your personal life. In health, creativity and life power, a personal pattern of evolution is detectable and established. This gives insights in health and sickness, in good- or bad luck, in creation or destruction by working with the Life Cycles Matrix ® Diagram. . . . By using the basic building block '3.2 years life cycle' in multiples it's very easy to come to the 7 year (6.4), the 10 year (9.6) and the famous 30 year (28.8) cycles. Obtain a better understanding why the 'mid-life crisis' (42-45y) is a crisis period in your course of life and not earlier or later. Understand why people die surprisingly often just two years after retirement around their 61-64 years. [Editor's Note: If you have an interest in Terence McKenna's Timewave Zero theory of history, you will find much information on this website to hold your interest.]

Becoming Human - an interactive documentary experience
This is an exceptional website. The documentary, created in Flash, requires a Flash player, 64 Mb of memory, and a high-speed Internet connection. However, their news and resources sections are accessible with a slower connection. You won't want to miss this journey through four million years of human evolution.

Earth Carma
Over the last 30 years geneticist have been debating the significance of a standard genetic code. The center of the debate has been whether or not all life shares a common ancestor. Rather than looking back in time for a common point of origin and trying to discover how this happened, perhaps we should accept that there is a reason the code is shared and ask ourselves why.

The answer may not be a biological time line of cause and effect. The answer may be more easily found with quantum physics. Perhaps the "Standard Code" is the core of life on this planet... the center. Looking at it from this perspective enables us to understand a connection and the possibility that in some way both physically and spiritually all life is connected and shared. This is the basic premise of Earth Carma.

The mission of Earth Carma is to enable others to understand this connection and facilitate a change in the way humans problem solve to ultimately create a healthy, nurturing environment for life on this planet.

Project Mind Foundation
is an international, non-profit, humanitarian organization based on the 1993 book, Project Mind, by T.Kun and has founding members in Australia, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, France, India, Israel, Kenya, Mexico, Pakistan, Portugal, the U.K., and the U.S.A. Our preliminary statement of purpose is:

"to free the human spirit from the crushing
illusion of materialism
by using the transformative genius,
latent in all humans,
to eliminate real and addictive lack."

Our foundation is in the process of forming a radically creative "mind tank" to systematically generate holistic scientific breakthroughs. The essence-theory behind Project Mind, derived from Lurianic/Ashlagian Kabbalah, is itself a philosophical breakthrough and makes possible the first concrete proposal for reconciling outer and inner paradigms ("science and spirit") in a balanced, high-energy synthesis that preserves the essentials of both.

The Real AI Institute
The Real AI Institute is a small team of scientists and software engineers, dedicated to the creation of the Novamente AI Engine, a software system intended to display artificial general intelligence - first at roughly the human level, and then increasingly beyond. The ideas underlying the Novamente system are based on years of prior research by Dr. Ben Goertzel, Dr. Pei Wang and others.

The mission of the Real AI Institute is

  • to implement, test and deploy the Novamente AI Engine, a software system currently under development which we believe has the potential to be the first true artificial general intelligence.
  • to apply the Novamente AI Engine in humanitarian ways, i.e. ways that benefit the whole of humanity

We do not aim to create a software system that precisely imitates human intelligence. But we do aim to create a software system that equals human intelligence, and ultimately far surpasses it.

Infected Mushroom
[From] . . . .masters of hallucinogenic trance, infected mushroom blew me away, not just with their psy-trance but with their creative blending of styles.. and not just trance styles. this israeli duo go a few steps beyond the standard and cough up not only classical pieces but also a harsh, funky and acidic flavour, making their trance journey an aural blast far surpassing the norm.

[Editor's Note: You owe it to yourself to listen to Infected Mushroom's "Bust A Move."]

The History of the Shamen is the story of several different types of evolution. It's a journey across the cultures of Acid House, the psychedelic underground and the Internet to find the words, sounds and songs of the future. And it follows the fairy steps of ancient shamen: tribal mystics who roamed the cutting edges of existence to talk to the spirits and discover the secrets of life. . . . In their first, mid 80s incarnation, The Shamen were a cheerfully weird and trip-fixated guitar band. . . . The Second evolution was when they realised that Acid House and The Shamen was going to be a match made in heaven. . . . This was the third evolution: the transformation from underground dance group to one of the most powerful and positive pop bands on the planet. In July 1992 they released their single, "LSI" and followed it with a stream of hits: "Boss Drum", Phorever People" and of course their long running number one "Ebeneezer Goode". With it's cheeky chorus of "Ezeer Goode, Ezeer Goode", the song soundtracked and smiled at the experiences of an entire generation. . . . if you listened carefully "Boss Drum" wasn't just another Pop record. Running through it's lyrics was a mesh of references that connected dance music and rave cultures with ancient Shamanic and tribal practices. Cult writer, biologist and thinker Terence McKenna, a Timothy Leary for the 90's, explained everything on the track "Re:Evolution" over a swirling ambient -trance groove. McKenna drew connection between plant psychedelics, human evolution, all-night dancing and eco-consciousness. . . . Now the fourth evolution: into Virtual Space, the Net and deeper, more mature musical expression.

The Noosphere Network has some of the most beautiful graphics we have yet seen online, and the intellectual content makes it even more of a "must see." The following text is from this very impressive website.

The sense of Existence and Life:
Existence is the progressive development and integration
of ever more complex and conscious structures
from strings and quarks to a socialized planet
(and universe).
Human life is the opportunity for a conscious participation
to this universal integrative evolution.

This website invites people who share this consciousness to interact with each other, to elaborate and to practice a scientifically based spirituality, thus participating to the highest level of Consciousness on this planet. The Noosphere Network Website intends to be a link between people thinking, feeling and acting inspired by this Consciousness, and spontaneously seeking to contact each other.

The Global Consciousness Project at Princeton University
The Global Consciousness Project (GCP) is an international effort involving researchers from several institutions and countries, designed to explore whether the construct of interconnected consciousness can be scientifically validated through objective measurement. The project builds on excellent experiments conducted over the past 35 years at a number of laboratories, demonstrating that human consciousness interacts with random event generators (REGs), apparently "causing" them to produce non-random patterns. . . . Displays of the data take various forms, including some that show the real-time activity as nearly as possible. Available now are regularly updated tables of statistical information as well as simple and easily understood graphical summaries of several kinds.

Science and Technology

Crucial physical and informational technologies: This site focuses on the science behind emerging technologies of broad importance, summarizing research results and offering technical perspectives on research directions. It includes tutorial material, new results, annotated bibliographies and links to external web resources. Initial topics include nanotechnology-based production systems (central to the future of physical technology), and secure, distributed computing (central to the future of informational technology). In both these areas, several widespread assumptions are very wrong. A better understanding can benefit both technical leaders seeking productive directions for research and development, and policy makers aiming to make wise decisions. contains original information not previously published as well as new diagrams and computer animations. The site is intended to complement Dr. Drexler's published technical work and his textbook Nanosystems: Molecular Machinery, Manufacturing and Computation and is intended to assist researchers, educators and students exploring these areas. A site map that gives an overview of its current contents can be found at:

The entries on have evolved from queries from researchers and students and reflect areas of frequent discussion.

In Our Own Words 2000 is a landmark national research program that examines emerging values and expressions of transformation from the hearts and minds of the American people. The results of this study program reveal a caring American public that is much more connected through spiritual beliefs and attitudes than most people may be aware of today.
In its broadest sense, In Our Own Words (IOOW) provides a meaningful heart-centered bridge between diverse groups of Americans who may currently believe they are so different from each other that they often do not see how deeply connected they may actually be. Thus, this project is intended to accelerate healing on a large social scale and to facilitate a more conscious evolution of Humanity.
