Zapatistas Activate a New Kind of Bomb in the Mexican Southeast
(Al Giordano, Narco News, August 23, 2005)
. . . representatives of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation . . . They've been listening, now, for various hours to presentations by representatives of social organizations that have traveled from all parts of this Mexico to tell of their struggles, offer proposals, and speak their word. . . . A spokesman from a neighborhood association from Tlalpan in Mexico City told the Zapatistas and the other 500 or so folks here that his group, too, wants to govern its area autonomously from impositions by the powers from above. His neighbors and he admire how the Zapatistas have formed their own democratic governments from below, without asking permission from the State. "Autonomy isn’t a demand only by the indigenous," the young man said, "but also in urban areas." Next came a woman from the Intersindical Primero de Mayo: women workers. They - as others throughout the day and night would do - proposed a meeting "just for women" as part of this Zapatista information-gathering process. There was strong applause each time this idea was raised. . . . Abigail Morita, 23, a mural painter from the nation's capital explained to Narco News: "We young people don’t identify with these Old Left groups. If we are not at their service, they don't look for us. They aren't interested in us. We are just cannon fodder for them. It enrages me. Many of these organizations don't do anything. The Zapatistas and the indigenous movement are different. The Zapatistas speak our language." . . . Morita refers to herself and to her peers as the "post-99 generation" that came out of, or after, the strike that closed the National University for 10 months and polarized the political left, for and against. And yet, as the day marched on, the many young people present - some who came as "observers" rather than as delegates of organizations - leaned closer in from their benches. They listened more and more closely to the words being spoken by many middle-aged and elder delegates from unions, neighborhood organizations, and others like them, and found much in common. For these "older" groups were not primarily from the ancient left, but, most (not all, but most), in fact, are younger as organizations than the student strike committee of '99. By the end of the weekend, a kind of ice had been melted under the Chiapaneco sun. People from different generations - indeed, different universes, it seems - had found paths to understand each other and reason to fight together. . . . Most of the organizations present were formed in the past five years by sectors of Mexican society that have been ravaged by the privatization of government tasks as imposed by the rules of the market. Their demands have been ignored and their people made into outcasts by political parties and institutional organizations and leaders, including those of the Old Left that, according to some of younger folks like Morita, they sounded like. They are at the margins. And it is through the margins and the marginalized - who together in this country and this world make for a majority of minorities - that the Zapatistas have begun to arm a kind of bomb and a corresponding explosion to come. The bomb under construction is, among other qualities, inter-generational. That is one difficult bomb to arm. But - lookey here - it is yet a more difficult one for the powerful to deactivate once it begins ticking. . . . [NOTE: Click the link above for much more in-depth analysis of the various factions now coming together in Mexico.] . . . And yet these testimonies here provide only a glimpse into the breadth and depth of this national movement – last week it was 92 indigenous organizations at the microphone, the week before it was 48 political organizations of the left, next weekend more than 300 non-governmental, artistic, and cultural organizations will send delegates – being activated: a social tsunami gathering force, far off the shores of election campaigns and mass media simulation. . . . And those who look only to the powers from above - to the Commercial Media, to the owning-class, to its politicians and parties - will be the last to see that great wave rolling over what they mistakenly thought to be real, static and permanent. But here it comes, from an ocean of humanity that is today on a mountaintop in the Mexican Southeast, striking out toward… well… kind reader… moving toward… the unwanted and seemingly invincible impositions all around you, too.

Bush's American-Taliban leader urges US to kill Chavez
(BBC NEWS, 23 August 2005)
US religious broadcaster Pat Robertson has called for the US to assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. . . . Mr Robertson caused controversy with the comments on his TV show, describing Mr Chavez as "a terrific danger". . . . Venezuela's vice president accused Robertson of making "terrorist" remarks and said the US response would put its anti-terror policy to the test. . . . Mr Chavez has accused Washington of conspiring to topple his government and possibly backing plots to assassinate him. . . . Mr Robertson, 75, said on Monday's edition of the 700 Club: "You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. . . . "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop." . . . Mr Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition of America and a former presidential candidate . . . Venezuela is the fifth-largest oil exporter and a major supplier of oil to the United States. . . . Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel said Venezuela was studying its legal options. . . . "The ball is in the US court, after this criminal statement by a citizen of that country. . . . "It's huge hypocrisy to maintain this discourse against terrorism and at the same time, in the heart of that country there are entirely terrorist statements like those." . . . A spokeswoman for the Christian Broadcasting Network told the BBC: "We are at a time of war and Pat had war on his mind when he made the comments." [COMMENT by Lorenzo: And nobody knows more about war than the Christians. They have given us many of our really great wars with their loving philosophy, as it is so eloquently stated by Pat Robertson.]

Was Four Star General Fired For Organizing Coup Against Neo-Cons?
(Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones, August 10 2005)
The head of Fort Monroe's Training and Doctrine Command, four star general Kevin P. Byrnes, was fired Tuesday apparently for sexual misconduct according to official sources. . . . Other sources however have offered a different explanation for Byrnes' dismissal which ties in with the Bush administration's unpopular plan to attack Iran and the staged nuclear attack in the US which would provide the pretext to do so. . . . According to reporter Greg Szymanski, anonymous military sources said that Brynes was the leader of a faction that was preparing to instigate a coup against the neo-con hawks in an attempt to prevent further global conflict. . . . Indications are that, much like popular opinion amongst the general public, half the military oppose the neo-con's agenda and half support it. . . . Further revelations were imparted by journalist Leland Lehrman who appeared today on The Alex Jones Show. . . . Lehrman's army sources, including a former Captain in intelligence, became outraged when they learned that the official story behind 9/11 was impossible. . . . They told Lehrman that the imminent Northcom nuclear terror exercise based in Charleston, S.C, where a nuclear warhead is smuggled off a ship and detonated, was originally intended to 'go live' - as in the drill would be used as the cover for a real false flag staged attack. . . . This website has relentlessly discussed similar style drills which took place on the morning of 9/11 and on the morning of 7/7 in London. . . . "Speculation exists that he had potentially discovered the fact that it was gonna go live and that he was trying to put a stop to it or also speculation indicates that he may be part of a military coup designed to prevent the ridiculous idea of doing a nuclear war with Iran," said Lehrman. . . . Lehrman said that other sources had told him all army leave had been cancelled from September 7th onwards, opening the possibility for war to be declared within that time frame. . . . Northcom officials also admitted to Lehrman that CNN had been using its situation room as a studio. . . . Earlier this week, Washington Post reported that the Pentagon has developed its first ever war plans for operations within the continental United States, in which terrorist attacks would be used as the justification for imposing martial law on cities, regions or the entire country. . . . American Conservative Magazine recently reported that Dick Cheney had given orders to immediately invade Iran after the next terror attack in the US, even if there was no evidence Iran was involved. . . . Government and media mouthpieces have been fearmongering for weeks about how a nuclear attack within the US is imminent. . . . Now would be the most opportune time for the Globalists to stage a major attack, as it would head off any potential indictments against the Bush administration for their involvement in illegally outing CIA agent Valerie Plame. . . . While rumors circulating about indictments having already taken place against Bush and Cheney should rightly be treated very carefully, the fact that there is an ongoing criminal investigation into the matter is something that's admitted and shouldn't be viewed as speculation.

Rolling Stones call Bush 'full of shit'
The track 'Sweet Neo Con', one of the tracks on the forthcoming A Bigger Bang, was already known to be fiercely anti-Bush. . . . However, frontman Mick Jagger's disdain for the American leader has now been confirmed, with Rolling Stones singer revealing some of the lyrics in an interview with Newsweek. . . . But the singer has revealed that guitarist Keith Richards, who lives in the US, is a bit worried about the direct nature of the words. . . . An extract from 'Sweet Neo Con' features the following lines: "You call yourself a Christian, I call you u a hypocrite/You call yourself a patriot, well I think you're full of shit." . . . Jagger said of the track: "It is direct. Keith said: 'It's not really metaphorical.' . . . I think he’s a bit worried because he lives in the US. But I don’t."

British MI6 agent accused of masterminding London bombings
(TheInsider.org, 02 August 2005)
On FOX News Channel's Day Side, Terrorism Expert John Loftus revealed that Haroon Rashid Aswat, the suspect wanted by British Police for "masterminding" the July 7th London bombings and July 21st attempted bombings is in fact an asset of MI6, the British Secret Service. According to Loftus, Aswat has been under the protection of MI6 for many years.

TRANSCRIPT: Fox News, "Dayside with Linda Vester", 29 July 2005:
MIKE JERRICK [FOX NEWS]: John Loftus is a terrorism expert and a former prosecutor for the Justice Department. John, good to see you again. So real quickly here, have you heard anything about this Osman Hussain who was just picked up in Rome? You know that name at all? . . . JOHN LOFTUS: Yeah, all these guys should be going back to an organization called Al-Muhajiroun, which means The Emigrants. It was the recruiting arm of Al-Qaeda in London; they specialized in recruiting kids whose families had emigrated to Britain but who had British passports. And they would use them for terrorist work. . . . JERRICK: Aswat, who they picked up. LOFTUS: Right, Aswat is believed to be the mastermind of all the bombings in London. JERRICK: On 7/7 and 7/21, this is the guy we think. LOFTUS: This is the guy, and what's really embarrassing is that the entire British police are out chasing him, and one wing of the British government, MI6 or the British Secret Service, has been hiding him. And this has been a real source of contention between the CIA, the Justice Department, and Britain. JERRICK: MI6 has been hiding him. Are you saying that he has been working for them? LOFTUS: Oh I'm not saying it. This is what the Muslim sheik said in an interview in a British newspaper back in 2001. JERRICK: So he's a double agent, or was? LOFTUS: He's a double agent. JERRICK: So he's working for the Brits to try to give them information about Al-Qaeda, but in reality he's still an Al-Qaeda operative. LOFTUS: Yeah. The CIA and the Israelis all accused MI6 of letting all these terrorists live in London not because they're getting Al-Qaeda information, but for appeasement. It was one of those you leave us alone, we leave you alone kind of things. JERRICK: Well we left him alone too long then. LOFTUS: Absolutely. Now we knew about this guy Aswat. Back in 1999 he came to America. The Justice Department wanted to indict him in Seattle because him and his buddy were trying to set up a terrorist training school in Oregon. JERRICK: So they indicted his buddy, right? But why didn't they indict him? LOFTUS: Well it comes out, we've just learned that the headquarters of the US Justice Department ordered the Seattle prosecutors not to touch Aswat. JERRICK: Hello? Now hold on, why? LOFTUS: Well, apparently Aswat was working for British intelligence. Now Aswat's boss, the one-armed Captain Hook, he gets indicted two years later. So the guy above him and below him get indicted, but not Aswat. Now there's a split of opinion within US intelligence. Some people say that the British intelligence fibbed to us. They told us that Aswat was dead, and that's why the New York group dropped the case. That's not what most of the Justice Department thinks. They think that it was just again covering up for this very publicly affiliated guy with Al-Muhajiroun. He was a British intelligence plant. So all of a sudden he disappears. He's in South Africa. We think he's dead; we don't know he's down there. Last month the South African Secret Service come across the guy. He's alive. JERRICK: Yeah, now the CIA says, oh he's alive. Our CIA says OK let's arrest him. But the Brits say no again? LOTFUS: The Brits say no. Now at this point, two weeks ago, the Brits know that the CIA wants to get a hold of Haroon. So what happens? He takes off again, goes right to London. He isn't arrested when he lands, he isn't arrested when he leaves. JERRICK: Even though he's on a watch list. LOFTUS: He's on the watch list. The only reason he could get away with that was if he was working for British intelligence. He was a wanted man. JERRICK: And then takes off the day before the bombings, I understand it-- LOFTUS: And goes to Pakistan. JERRICK: And Pakistan, they jail him. LOFTUS: The Pakistanis arrest him. They jail him. He's released within 24 hours. Back to Southern Africa, goes to Zimbabwe and is arrested in Zambia.

How Britain helped Israel get the bomb
(BBC NEWS, 3 August 2005)
Documents uncovered by Newsnight in the British National Archives show how, in 1958, Britain agreed to sell Israel 20 tonnes of heavy water, a vital ingredient for the production of plutonium at Israel's top secret Dimona nuclear reactor in the Negev desert. . . . Robert McNamara, President John F Kennedy's defence secretary, has told Newsnight he is "astonished" at the revelation that Britain kept this secret from America. . . . In Wednesday's programme, Newsnight reveals how British officials decided it would be "over-zealous" to impose safeguards on the Israelis, and chose not to insist that Israel use the heavy water only for peaceful purposes. . . . Earlier the Americans had refused to supply heavy water to Israel without such safeguards. . . . "On the whole I would prefer NOT to mention this to the Americans," concluded Donald Cape of the Foreign Office. When contacted by Newsnight this week, Mr Cape said he could remember nothing about the episode. . . . "I think it is quite extraordinary," says the former Conservative Defence and Foreign Office minister Lord Gilmour. "Whether the civil servants who were involved knew what they were doing, or whether they didn't, I don't know." He thinks they put Britain's economic interests first. . . . "One must assume they must have known... And what's more they seemed to have no idea of the political or indeed even the technical and foreign-policy implications of what they were doing. They just seemed to be concerned with making a bit of money." . . . Until now both France and Norway have been criticised for helping the Israelis develop the bomb, but Britain has escaped criticism. . . . Frank Barnaby, who worked on the British bomb project in the 1950s, and later debriefed the Israeli whistle-blower Mordechai Vanunu, says he had "no idea" that Britain was "involved" in supplying Israel with heavy water. . . . "Heavy water was crucial for Israel," he says. "Therefore it was a significant part of their nuclear programme." . . . More extraordinary, the archives suggest that the decision to sell heavy water was taken simply by civil servants, mainly in the Foreign Office and the UK Atomic Energy Authority. . . . Newsnight has found no evidence that ministers in the Macmillan Government were ever consulted about the sale, or even told about it. . . . The papers in the National Archives in London show how officials presented the sale internally as a straight sale from Norway to Israel. But the minutes reveal that the heavy water was shipped from a British port in Israeli ships - half in June 1959 and half a year later. . . . In 1960 the Daily Express first exposed the Israelis' work at Dimona and the fact that Israel was probably making a bomb. . . . When Israel asked Britain for a further five tonnes of heavy water in 1961 the Foreign Office decided against a second transaction. . . . "I am quite sure we should not agree to this sale," advised Sir Hugh Stephenson of the Foreign Office. "The Israeli project is much too live an issue for us to get mixed up in it again," he wrote. . . . Mr McNamara, who became President Kennedy's defence secretary in 1961, has expressed his surprise to Newsnight that Britain didn't inform the Americans it had sold heavy water to Israel: "The fact that Israel was trying to develop a nuclear bomb should not have come as any surprise... But that Britain should have supplied it with heavy water was indeed a surprise to me. . . . "It's very surprising to me that we weren't told because we shared information about the nuclear bomb very closely with the British."
