A funny example of the hate mail we receive
As you might expect, the Matrix Masters Web site generates its fair share of hate mail. Most of it is just childish rants, but once in a while we receive something that makes us want to laugh. The following is an example of just such a message:

Maybe, one day you will focus your hatred for America towards those entities and regimes who take away peoples liberties and personal freedoms. America exists because of the fear that is exacerbated in this world by people like you. America will stand much longer than any other country on this planet. Someday you will have an epiphany and realize that America is the only true stabilizing force in the world. Your frustrations and rants will only shorten your life through stress induced health issues. Your misinformation does nothing but confuse people and incite hatred. Yes, one day you (sic) when you meet your maker and you will understand.

That one still cracks me up. For example, DP says, "America exists because of the fear that is exacerbated in this world by people like you."

From that nonsensical statement, one could assume that our Web site is partly responsible for America's very existence. As a matter of fact, once before I was told that "America" existed because of people like me. Only then I was serving this country in Viet Nam during our war of aggression in South East Asia. However, I wasn't aware that it was "fear" that was the primary motive force behind the success of the USA. I always thought there were other principles involved. Obviously, DP has a better grasp on our nation's reason for being right now than do I, as fear does seem to be the only thing on the minds of people in this strange land these days.

So I guess, DP from Clifton, you are actually sending us a compliment. Thanks a million!

(Note to DP: "America" includes much more than just the United States. Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, other nations are also an integral part of "America." My guess is that they would take offense at being included in your diatribe.)

PATRIOT Act Secrecy Challenged; DoD Appeals EPIC FOIA Victory
FBI documents that have been disclosed through the Freedom of Information Act lawsuit reveal that the Bureau is aggressively using a sweeping power that -- without the approval of a judge -- allows the government to force banks, Internet service providers, telephone companies, and credit agencies to turn over their customers' records. Through the issuance of "National Security Letters" (NSLs) the government can obtain records about people living in the United States (including American citizens) without probable cause that the person has committed any crime. Entities that are required to turn over information are prohibited from disclosing the fact that the FBI has demanded the records. Documents released by the FBI show that the Bureau has issued enough "Transactional Records NSLs" since October 2001 to fill six pages of logs. It is not possible to determine exactly how many times the power has been employed because the actual log entries are entirely blacked out.
