New Flu Vaccine is Loaded With Mercury (Mercola.com, August 31, 2005) GlaxoSmithKline's new flu vaccine Fluarix was approved Wednesday for sale in the USA this fall under an accelerated FDA approval process. Another flu vaccine manufacturer, Chiron, moved closer to getting their license back; it was suspended when their flu vaccine was found to be contaminated with bacteria. . . . Chiron's license was suspended by British regulators in October, and the FDA barred U.S. distribution of the vaccine, cutting the nation's expected supply of flu vaccine in half. . . . GlaxoSmithKline expects to distribute 8 million doses of Fluarix and will begin shipping immediately. Chiron, if its vaccine is re-approved, could supply 18 million to 26 million doses of Fluvirin.
Dr. Mercola's Comment: It has been six years since the American Academy of Pediatrics and the U.S. Public Health Service joined forces in requesting the removal of all mercury-containing preservative thimerosal from vaccines. . . . A quick surf on the net easily reveals that this new vaccine indeed contains mercury. . . . How is it possible that they can approve vaccines that have a preservative that has been outlawed for six years? Last year I ran an article that documented that flu vaccines still contain mercury. How can the US federal government justify this morally reprehensible behavior and expose your children and you to this well documented neurotoxic poison? . . . The "Mad Hatter" from Alice in Wonderland wasn't just an idle fancy. In fact, hatters in England went insane with astonishing frequency a couple of hundred years ago, until "mad hatter" became a cliché. Why? Mercury salts were used to make felt for fancy hats. . . . Mercury exposure can cause a devastating array of problems, including:
* Multiple Sclerosis * Central Nervous System Disorders * Autism * Alzheimer's Disease
Is this really something you want injected into yourself, and your children?
Avoid mercury poisoning; don't eat fish, unless you are absolutely certain that it has been tested in a laboratory and shown not to contain detectable levels of mercury and other toxins. To get your vital omega-3 fatty acids, eat high quality fish oil instead. This will also, incidentally, help keep you from getting the flu.
Other ways to avoid getting the flu without taking dangerous shots include: [NOTE: Click the title link above for the full story]

EPA Scientists Call for an End to Water Fluoridation Because of Cancer Risk (Organic Consumers' Association, August 30, 2005) Eleven EPA employee unions representing over 7000 environmental and public health professionals of the Civil Service have called for a moratorium on drinking water fluoridation programs across the country, and have asked EPA management to recognize fluoride as posing a serious risk of causing cancer in people. The unions acted following revelations of an apparent cover-up of evidence from Harvard School of Dental Medicine linking fluoridation with elevated risk of a fatal bone cancer in young boys. . . . The unions sent letters to key Congressional committees asking Congress to legislate a moratorium pending a review of all the science on the risks and benefits of fluoridation. The letters cited the weight of evidence supporting a classification of fluoride as a likely human carcinogen, which includes other epidemiology results similar to those in the Harvard study, animal studies, and biological reasons why fluoride can reasonably be expected to cause the bone cancer - osteosarcoma - seen in young boys and test animals. . . . The letter to EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson asked him to issue a public warning in the form of an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking setting the health-based drinking water standard for fluoride at zero, as it is for all known or probable human carcinogens, pending a recommendation from a National Academy of Sciences' National Research Council committee. That committee's work is not expected to be done before 2006. . . . The unions also asked Congress and EPA's enforcement office, or the Department of Justice, to look into reasons why the Harvard study director, Chester Douglass, failed to report the seven-fold increased risk seen in the work he oversaw, and instead wrote to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the federal agency that funded the Harvard study, saying there was no link between fluoridation and osteosarcoma. Douglass sent the same negative report to the National Research Council committee studying possible changes in EPA's drinking water standards for fluoride. . . . The unions who signed the letters represent EPA employees from across the nation, including laboratory scientists in Ohio, Oklahoma and Michigan, regulatory support scientists and other workers at EPA headquarters in Washington, D.C. and science and regulatory workers in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and San Francisco.

War on terror 'causing US deaths' in health crisis
(BBC NEWS, 9 September 2005)
The US government's focus on the war on terror has diverted funds from healthcare, leading to many deaths, a leading health expert claims. . . . Professor Erica Frank said the effects of funding diversion had been sharply felt following Hurricane Katrina. . . . She said, while 3,400 died in the 9/11 attacks, around 5,200 Americans died on the same day from common diseases. . . . Professor Frank, who is an expert in family and preventative medicine based at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, said public health experts first became concerned about "disproportionate" US government funding of bioterrorism prevention, rather than other public health care three years ago. . . . "As early as 2002, many people thought that the Bush plan for smallpox vaccination was a misguided reflection of public health funds for bioterrorism preparedness, and it was thwarted." . . . She said such preparations were still being "magnified beyond its potential risk". . . . Professor Frank said that, in September 2002, New York was awarded $1.3m to reduce heart disease, the leading killer of people in the city, while $34m was awarded for bioterrorism preparedness in the state. . . . FBI funds designated for investigating fraud in health care also seem to have shifted to other purposes, including fighting terrorism, and military funds for cleaning up polluted sites and meeting clean air standards have been proposed for capping and exemption by the Pentagon, she said. . . . "Predictable tragedies happen every day. . . . "We know that strategies to reduce deaths from tobacco, alcohol, poor diet, unintentional injuries and other predictable causes. . . . "And we know that millions of people will die unless we protect the population against these routine causes of death."
