Road map failure would wreck Iraq war gains-Canada (David Ljunggren, Reuters, May 20, 2003) Failure by the world's major powers to press ahead with the proposed Middle East peace ''road map'' could erase any benefits in the region gained from the invasion of Iraq, Canada said on Tuesday. . . . The road map -- backed by the United States, the United Nations, the European Union and Russia -- is under threat after a series of suicide bombings in Israel. The plan, opposed by Israel in its current form, foresees creating a Palestinian state as early as 2005. . . . ''The single most important issue that will be being discussed here (by the G8), apart from the reconstruction of Iraq...would probably be 'What are the chances of success of the road map?' because ultimately the road map is the second step (after Iraq),'' Graham told Reuters in an interview. . . . ''What we all recognize is that if the road map is not pushed, if it has to wait until after the next U.S. election, certainly my European colleagues are saying it's going to be too late.''
