    Thought for the day
Who sees all beings in their own self, and their own self in all beings, loses all fear.

This interesting time in which we live
If there is any period one would desire to be born in, -- is it not the age of Revolution; when the old and the new stand side by side, and admit of being compared; when the energies of all men are searched by fear and by hope; when the historic glories of the old, can be compensated by the rich possibilities of the new era? This time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it.
    -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

    Something to think about
No man is great enough or wise enough for any of us to surrender our destiny to. The only way in which anyone can lead us is to restore to us the belief in our own guidance.

    Thought for the day
To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, right or wrong, is not only un-patriotic, but it is morally treasonable to the American people.-- President Theodore Roosevelt

This is the Fight of Our Lives
(Bill Moyers, Keynote speech, Inequality Matters Forum, New York University, June 3, 2004)

The middle class and working poor are told that what's happening to them is the consequence of Adam Smith's 'Invisible Hand.' This is a lie. What's happening to them is the direct consequence of corporate activism, intellectual propaganda, the rise of a religious orthodoxy that in its hunger for government subsidies has made an idol of power, and a string of political decisions favoring the powerful and the privileged who bought the political system right out from under us.'

    God Take Bush
    NOTICE TO ALL GOVERNMENT AGENTS:
What follows is satire. As you know, satire is the use of ridicule, irony, sarcasm, etc. to expose folly or vice. I point this out here because many of us who continue to exercise our right of free speech have begun to censor ourselves out of fear . . . fear of a knock on the door in the middle of the night. It is a very sad state of affairs when people in the formerly free USA have to be careful about what they say. When Bush's spokesman warned, "People had better be careful what they say," we knew where this country was headed, and it made us sad. Most thinking people, liberals and conservatives alike, are aware that this nation is no longer a democratic republic but has somehow morphed into a fascist oligarchy. (Check out the definitions of those words in a dictionary and come to your own conclusions before you brand me anti-American, as you are now branding many of my fellow Viet Nam vets who are protesting the "War President." What we hope to see one day is a Peace President. Sorry . . . I got carried away . . . What I want to tell all you good people who are employed by the government is that what follows is in no way whatsoever to be considered a threat of any kind to anyone. It's ridicule of Bush and of right-wing Fundamentalist Christians. And it is meant to be heard with a smile on your face. Sometimes We the People just want to have a little fun :-).

and now, let the satire begin ...

The following is a message from Jim Matus of Paranoise:

    Dear Progressive Radio friends,

This is my new Paranoise vs. Bush "Rant".
It's a satirical piece where I play a preacher who tells his congregation that
Bush has done such a wonderful job that it is now time for his great reward
in heaven. At the end of his sermon the entire congregation erupts into the
very catchy new hymn "I Wish That God Would Take Bush".

Please play this as often as possible and make
copies and give them to all your friends. I want everyone in Amerika to know
this song by the time of the Republican convention so we can all sing Bush out
    of office.

Tell your listeners that they can get a free
copy by going to my web site (www.paranoise.com)
hitting "contact" and sending me their ground address.

    Sincerely,

    Jim Matus

    For your listening pleasure

3 of Jim Matus' new rant. If Windows Media Player is your default MP3 application,
a left click on the file name will launch and play the file. To download and
save the file to your computer, right click and select the “Save target

    A MUST-READ Essay
In the War on Iraq section, our friendly Old Curmudgeon posted a brief summary of the essay linked to above. In an untypically low-key way, the old Curmudgeon just said "worth a read." ... Well, I just finished reading it, and I want to highly recommend that you click the link and read this essay in its entirety. It is written by a combat veteran of the American war in Viet Nam, and directly confronts anyone who thinks being anti-war is being anti-American. And I must confess, I couldn't help but to smile at his last paragraph, which is taken from a famous Texas saying:

I, for one, am real tired of Bush and company pissin' on my boots while trying to convince me it's raining. The crazy part is how many of you are reaching for umbrellas.

    Thought for the day
Our freedoms are being taken away while we look at a flickering light show. More than ever we need to be enlightened. Our very survival depends on it.

It seems to me that ...
Bush supporters (other than his wealthy patrons) are like the people who continue to shop at Wal-Mart ... they are gnawing off their own paws.

"Psychedelics in the Age of Intelligent Machines"
In case you haven't had an opportunity to hear Terence McKenna's final public conversation, you ought to get together with a couple of friends and buy a copy of the DVD of this event. This historic talk, quite fittingly, took place in Seattle in 1999. Here is what the producers have say about it:

"Originally this video was live feedback for rear screen projection behind Terence McKenna in the Seattle nightclub where McKenna gave this, his final talk. . . . At the time no one knew that McKenna was soon to become seriously ill, and that this would be his last public appearance. . . . There was no intention at the time to make this recording available to the public. This edit is made from several cameras and the live video mixing board for the rear screen. . . . You'll see the psychedelic images of Jon Dix that were mixed live at the club onto screen and the video recording, plus computer animation by Duff Hendrickson of SurrealStudio. . . . This recording visually communicates a mushroom affected point of view."

If you click on the link above you will be taken to a page where you can download and preview part of this video.

[FULL DISCLOSURE: Although I get no commission on the sales of these videos, the producers kindly gave me a review copy. Having watched it three times now, I feel qualified to give it my approval ;-). ... Lorenzo]

    Thought for the day
    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain.

A view before the Internet evolved
Whoever controls the media, controls the mind.
    -- Jim Morrison

Now that the Net has reached into so many lives, perhaps we the people have a chance to control our own minds for a change. . . we'll soon see.
