Thought for the day
Human life is reduced to real suffering, to hell, only when two ages, two cultures and religions overlap. . . . Now there are times when a whole generation is caught in this way between two ages, two modes of life, with the consequence that it loses all power to understand itself and has no standard, no security, no simple acquiescence.

Thought for the day
If the real rationale for the Iraq War has been self-interested control over oil resources, the regional economy, political influence, and military bases if it was not self-defense and not selfless liberation, then President Bush betrayed the trust of our soldiers, the Congress, and the American people. Mere lying is a minor matter when betrayal is the issue.

Thought for the day
The starships of the future, in other words the vehicles of the future, which will explore the high frontier of the unknown will be syntactical. The engineers of the future will be poets. This is what virtual reality holds out to us - the possibility of walking in to the constructs of the imagination.

Palenque Norte conversations at Burning Man 2003
I apologize for not doing much blogging lately. Most of my available Web time is currently being taken up with getting the Palenque Norte conversations online in MP3 format. The process is going slower than anticipated, but the first one has been posted and approved by the speaker. So you can now take a look at the pictures and listen to Jon Hanna's presentation Drug Inspired Metaphysical Concepts. I think you will find it quite interesting.

Johns Hopkins Medical School Admits Fraud in Ecstasy Study
As the psychedelic community has known for many years, Dr. George A. Ricaurte has made a lot of money via government sponsored studies designed in advance to prove that MDMA (Ecstasy) is harmful. Ricuarte has been a stooge of politicized government spin-science for years, and he has received millions of dollars in NIDA grants for junk science, long before this latest flap emerged. It can't look very good either for Alan Leishner, editor in chief of Science and a former NIDA director. Many have wondered if government sponsored research, especially that funded by NIDA, can be trusted, since there is a clearly a political agenda associated with it. This scandal pretty much ends the argument; the research is sloppy, and cannot be trusted. See our section about the War on Drugs for several stories about this issue.

California Candidates All Agree: Medical Marijuana Will Remain Legal in California
In an astounding display of unity, every one of the major candidates for governor of California agreed that the US Government has no business trying to overturn the express wishes of the citizens of the State of California concerning the use of medical marijuana. Even the candidates from the Fascist Fringe of the Republican Party agreed that this valuable medicine should not be denied to people in pain. It was an unprecedented moment in politics when, without exception, every candidate expressed their intention to challenge the brutal tactics of Ashcrofts right-wing Christian fanatics who are arresting dying people who are using cannabis to ease their pain and suffering.
The tide has turned, America. New social movements that take hold in California eventually spread across this land. When arch conservatives like some of the Republican candidates for governor unequivocally support the right to use medical marijuana, other politicians throughout the land had best take note. The people are rising up on this issue and will not be denied their right to use what is perhaps the safest medicine on the planet.
Now it is time to do your part. It is time to stand up and be counted. Call and write to your political representatives and let them know how you feel about this issue. If you havent already done so, lend your support to one or more of the activist organizations that are working for a more sensible drug policy. Check out the following links and become involved with the group that most resonates with you.
Americans for Safe Access
The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML)
