Republican Global Warming Document Suggests Brainwashing Techniques
[NOTE: The following is a small extract from a 146 page document ( PDF format version ). I first became aware of it when a friend sent a link and a note that read, "I received this from a friend of mine - it's an extract of a report on how the Republican Party can better message around the issue of the environment, recognizing it as the issue where they are the MOST vulnerable." . . . I highly recommend that you read the entire report just to better see what cynical and ruthless people we are up against.]

PAGE 131 --- THE ENVIRONMENT: A CLEANER, SAFER, HEALTHIER AMERICA The core of the Democrat argument depends on the belief that "Washington Regulations" represent the best way to preserve the environment. We don't agree. . . . 1) First, assure your audience that you are committed to "preserving and protecting" the environment, but that "it can be done more wisely and effectively." . . . 3) Your plan must be put in terms of future, not the past or present. . . . 6) If you must use the economic argument, stress that you are seeking "a fair balance" between the environment and the economy. . . . PAGE 132 --- OVERVIEW The environment is probably the single issue on which Republicans in general - and President Bush in particular - are most vulnerable. . . . PAGE 137 --- WINNING THE GLOBAL WARMING DEBATE -- AN OVERVIEW . . .
Please keep in mind the following communication recommendations as you address global warming in general, particularly as Democrats and opinion leaders attack President Bush over Kyoto. . . . 1) The scientific debate remains open. . . . 3) Technology and innovation are the key in arguments on both sides. . . . 4) The "international fairness" issue is the emotional home run. Given the chance, Americans will demand that all nations be part of any international global warming treaty. Nations such as China, Mexico and India would have to sign such an agreement for the majority of Americans to support it. . . . PAGE 138 --- The most important principle in any discussion of global warming is your commitment to sound science. . . . The scientific debate is closing [against us] but not yet closed. There is still a window of opportunity to challenge the science. . . . LANGUAGE THAT WORKS "We must not rush to judgment before all the facts are in. We need to ask more questions. We deserve more answers. And until we learn more we should not commit America to any international document that handcuffs us either now or into the future" . . . WORDS THAT WORK "Scientists can extrapolate all kinds of things from today's data, but that doesn't tell us anything about tomorrow's world. You cant look back a million years and say that proves that we're heating the globe now hotter than it's ever been. After all, just 20 years ago scientists were worried about a new ice age." . . . LANGUAGE THAT WORKS "Unnecessary environmental regulations hurt mom and dads, grandmas and grandpas. They hurt senior citizens on reduced incomes. They take an enormous swipe at miners, loggers, truckers, farmers - anyone who has any work in energy intensive professions. They mean less income for families struggling to survive and educate their children." . . . This is most effective when you actually describe how specific activities and items will cost more, from 'pumping gas to turning on the light.' Remember, Americans already think they are an overtaxed people. Treaties such as Kyoto would have been yet another tax on an already overburdened population. . . . PAGE 142 --- CONCLUSION: REDEFINING LABELS The mainstream, centrist American now sees the excesses of so-called "environmentalists", and prefers the label "conservationist" instead. . . . 1) "Climate change" is less frightening than "global warming". . . . 2) We should be "conservationists", not "preservationists" or "environmentalists".

[COMMENT by Lorenzo: This is a truly amazing document, very Orwellian.]

Ancient mountain glacier in danger
(BBC NEWS, 1 July 2005)
Scientists in India have warned that the ancient glacier that feeds the holy river Ganges is likely to melt down before the end of the century. . . . They say it could disappear even faster if climate change speeds up. They say man-made carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are almost certainly to blame for the current level of warming. . . . They are worried because the glaciers are vital for their contribution to water supplies to many millions of people in the Himalayan region. . . . Some scientists say the effects of glacial meltdown could stretch to billions of people in one of the most densely populated areas of the planet. . . . Dr RK Pachauri told the BBC's Newsnight programme that climate change was predicted to disrupt monsoon rains. Combined with glacial meltdown this will leave people doubly vulnerable, he said. . . . The Nepali government is calling on rich nations to reduce their CO2 emissions. . . . Nepal is already suffering the effects of rapid warming in the mountains. . . . The director of hydrology Dr Madan Shrestra told Newsnight that river flow has increased because glaciers are melting twice as fast as previously. . . . Some Nepali glaciers have already melted into lakes. The water is trapped behind walls of debris scoured by the glacier. . . . Glacial rock dams like this are highly unstable. One rock dam burst sweeping away homes and a power plant. The Nepali government want to lower the water level of hundreds of new glacial lakes. But it's expensive, and they cannot afford it. . . . Nepal does produce carbon dioxide emissions of its own. But the average Nepali creates five per cent of the CO2 produced by the average American.
