Co-discover of structure of DNA took LSD (Source: 'Scientist who discovered DNA was high on mind-bending drug', Ireland on Sunday p. 28, 08 Aug 2004)
Francis Crick, the British scientist who, along with co-researcher James Watson, discovered the double helix structure of DNA in 1953, admitted years later that he often took small doses of LSD to boost his powers of thought.
He told a young biochemist, Richard Kemp, that he had in fact perceived the double helix shape while on LSD and had fed that idea into his research.
The unravelling of the structure of DNA, the chemical of which genes are made, won the Nobel Prize for Crick and his American colleague Watson.
